PepsiCo Becomes Social

As it appears, PepsiCo actually listened to consumers. They made experts predictions a reality, giving more interactivity. April 27th, 2011 PepsiCo launched a Social Vending Machine. Apparently, people have been anticipating this invention for quite some time. I however, had no idea this existed. Not even the thought.
Have a look:

They found a way to have a consumer interact with the product AND service... while also having them interact with the end user! Who knew a vending machine could be so sociable?
PepsiCo used online commercials which applied modern technology to produce their product, promote their product, price it, and place it. Customers can closely manage inventory levels and delivery scheduling remotely, and update the digital content online which allows them to change messaging and media content as needed.
Their desire was to create innovative online advertising and become part of social networking in todays society. Though it needs a few tweaks with privacy,  I would say they did a swell job with this innovation.
However, I think that this process can make getting a Pepsi fairly difficult. What if I want a drink and a group of girls are giggling while recording a video to send to a friend with a gift... for 20 minutes. I feel as though this could frustrate people, having a machine with social capabilities.
Would you use this machine?

  1. This is fascinating, and I think it could actually drive UP demand for Pepsi products! Think about it: if consumers are not able to find more available Pepsi machines, then the product will be in the forefront of their minds as they look for another machine that will dispense the product. Thus, it raises brand awareness as well as general popularity as consumers are able to interact with the product and technology.

  2. I like the idea of a machine that is interactive but I don't know how interactive it has to be. I agree that it could frustrate some customers if all they want to do is get a soda and not mess with something complicated and the lines could be a problem. Also I'm not a big Pepsi drinker and very rarely drink it so i will probably never interact with this product but it is a very interesting idea, especially the gift feature.

  3. Very interesting idea. I think demand for Pepsi product would definitely increase with the release of this new vending product. I would totally buy a drink just to check it out. That being said I am sure how long this increase in demand would last. Seems like it would be short lived. As with anything else this new idea will become old after a period of time.

  5. Pepsi is a one of the largest corporations around the world, and when it creates such an innovative advertising in order to give an extra reason for its customers to buy from them is an absolutely smart idea that I like. These advertisement will absolutely get the demand increasing, which is the Pepsi's main target to increase profits. The gift part I think was the most exciting part. Finally, I totally agree that it would frustrate a lot of people.

  6. I think that this could be an idea that would set Pepsi apart from the competition but it could also blow up on them. For me the gift idea is a little bit outrageous. A Pepsi just isn't the gift I want. I also think that people could take too long at the vending machine and others would get frustrated and go elsewhere.
